Hair Q&A

How Do You Define Natural Hair?

Natural hair is celebrated for its incredible versatility. Whether you style it straight, curly, in an afro, body wave, or beach wave, natural hair defies categorization. Its limitless potential makes it a beautiful and exciting canvas for any hair artist. With natural hair, the possibilities for creativity are endless—making it a true standout in the world of hair care.

What’s the Most Important Step When Washing Natural Hair?

Washing natural hair can feel challenging, especially if you’re new to caring for your textured locks. One of my favorite easy methods is to mix half conditioner and half water in a spray bottle. I then part the hair into sections and use a wide-tooth comb or detangling brush to gently work through any knots. Make sure the hair is damp before shampooing—this softens the hair and makes it easier to manage. Taking this approach helps maintain the health and integrity of your natural hair during washes.

Should You Wash Natural Hair in Sections?

Washing hair in sections can offer significant benefits for those with natural hair, but it also has its challenges.

Pros: This method is particularly effective for medium to tight curl patterns. Washing in sections prevents tangles and allows for better control, especially in the shower.

Cons: For individuals with long, thick, or coarse hair, washing in sections over the sink may leave some product buildup behind. Proper rinsing can be more challenging, so take extra care to ensure your hair is fully cleansed.

Should You Rinse Out Conditioner Completely or Leave It In?

The answer is both! While you should rinse conditioner thoroughly from your scalp to avoid buildup, leaving a small amount on the ends can work wonders for adding moisture to textured hair. Since textured hair tends to absorb moisture, this technique can enhance hydration and keep your curls soft and manageable, even when paired with a leave-in conditioner.
